There are lots of good books available to help you with identification and distribution, some of which have been developed with Lancashire and the North-west of England being the basis. Here are some of the most useful.

The Moths of Lancashire was published in May 2024 and details the status and distribution of all the moths recorded in Lancashire to 2023. Amongst other things, It’s a great resource when you come across an unusual moth to check the likelihood of it occurring where you are.

Micro-moth Field Tips (Volumes 1 and 2) help to open up the world of leafmines and finding feeding signs of micros.

Pug Moths of North-west England is a fantastic guide to identifying the species that many find very difficult.
